Join in the fun as Day 48 of the Olympic Torch Relay sees the flame wind its way from Norfolk into Suffolk. Torch Bearers will travel to Lowestoft, then onto the iconic Suffolk coastal towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh, before heading to Woodbridge and Felixstowe. The flame will then travel by river to Ipswich, pausing close to the Orwell Bridge for a photo opportunity. The flame will continue to Ipswich Waterfront before travelling into the town centre and onto Christchurch Park via the Soane Street entrance. The Torch Bearers will appear on stage at approximately 18:45pm, ready for a Celebration Evening, culminating in a cauldron being lit from the Olympic flame.

One of the local Torch Bearers is Chairman of Waveney Gymnastics Club, Mr John Pawsey. John has spent a lifetime in the pursuit of encouraging local communities to become actively involved in sport and will be carrying the torch on the Lowestoft leg of this momentous journey. Waveney Gymnastics’ Club has hosted both the Australian and Canadian teams in preparation London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and both of these international teams visited Southwold earlier in the year.
