Suffolk Coast & Heaths
The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is one of the most dazzling areas to stay and explore in Suffolk. It has a diversity of landscape that you don’t find in many parts of the country. From picturesque rural scenes to breath-taking views across estuaries and striking coastal panoramas. It’s an area with plenty to offer: ancient heaths, shingle beaches, historic, charming towns and villages.
We have a great selection of holiday homes in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths area; by the sea and further inland. Click the 'read more' tab for a brief overview of some of the surrounding towns and villages, or for more detailed information visit our Suffolk Coast and Heaths Tourist Guide.
The area covers around 155 square miles encompassing the villages of Dunwich, Westleton, Minsmere, Saxmundham and Wenhaston. There are many fantastic things to do and explore in these places and many excellent places to relax and eat at the end of each day. One of the area’s most significant features is that it is home to such a vast array of wildlife. An abundance of birds and animals live in the different habitats the area spans and there are many reserves dedicated to their protection in Suffolk.Â
The village of Dunwich has famously almost completely fallen into the sea and legend has it at certain times, the bells of the church beneath the waves can be heard tolling. Dunwich has beautiful, sloping, shingle beaches that adjoin the RSPB reserve at Minsmere. These are perfect for strolling along and are also form part of set trails that take you through the different habitats of the nature reserve.Â
Saxmundham is a popular market town on the River Fromus not 20 minutes away from Dunwich on the coast. The town has a wide selection of shops and eateries and even a railway station so you can explore even further afield without having to go out in the car. Both Westleton and Wenhaston are pretty little villages in the Suffolk countryside with some great pubs, which is perfect for when you have had a day out exploring the beautiful surroundings.
