BYE BYE TILLY’S. We were sad to hear that Tilly’s Tea Rooms will open their doors for the very last time this Sunday, 14th April 2013.  Tilly’s has offered good old-fashioned refreshments and a hint of nostalgia to the Southwold High Street for the past four years. We wish the owners all the best for the future. A new artisan bakery has just opened next door to Daddylonglegs shoe shop.

NEW ARTISAN BAKERY2 Magpies Bakery opens early for breakfast and serves freshly baked croissants and pastries throughout the morning.  Their lunch menu includes sourdough paninis, filled rolls and homemade soup.

NEW! SOUTHWOLD RAILWAY TOURS ONBOARD 1950’s BUS. The Southwold Railway was a narrow-gauge railway plying between Halesworth and Southwold from 1879 - 1929.  New for Summer 2013, visitors can now take an entertaining trip on board "Olive", an historic 1950s bus, to see what is left of the railway, visiting old station sites at Wenhaston, Blythburgh, Walberswick and Southwold.

Sit back as your guide, attired as a Victorian Railway Guard, takes you into the golden age of steam railways. Passengers will also visit the engine shed where an 1879 locomotive is being built, and watch old railway footage in Southwold's iconic Electric Picture Palace.

Tours take place on Thursdays on the following dates:-

SOUTHWOLD CHARTER FAIR 27 – 29 May 2013Now known as Charter Fair, The Southwold Fair or Trinity Fair as it was traditionally named, is held on the three days following Trinity Sunday (eight weeks after Easter). The opening of the fair normally takes place on the Monday morning, and traditionally, the Mayor of Southwold and the Town Councillors make a procession around the fairground on South Green, before taking a ride on one of the fairground attractions.  Historically, the Merry-Go-Round was the ride of choice, but today the Mayor and Councillors prefer the dodgems! The Town Clerk then reads the Fair Charter in three different places around Southwold including on the Green and in the Market Place.
