From beautiful walks along the heritage coastal path, to re-enactments of Knights Tournaments, summer music concerts and outdoor theatre, there’s no shortage of events in July.
On July 6, why not come along to the free Sixties by The Sea outdoor concert on Aldeburgh Seafront? Also on July 6-7, you could visit the beautiful 18th-century estate of Heveningham Hall for their annual Country Fair. Set in the heart of the peaceful, Suffolk countryside, the fair will prove a great day out for all the family with daredevil aerobatic displays by The Blades, a food and crafts hall, vintage vehicles, Suffolk Punch horses and a mini-farm.
If you’re staying in one of our Southwold holiday properties, why not take a tour of the iconic Lighthouse that run every Wednesday afternoon during the summer? Southwold Summer Theatre also has a full programme of shows throughout July, with previous season’s performances having included Agatha Christie’s Love from a Stranger, The Curse of Dracula and Thomas Hardy’s Far From the Madding Crowd.
Visit Ickworth House in Horringer near Bury St Edmunds on July 14 for their fascinating ‘Living History’ days which tell the real stories of the people who lived and worked at this Grand Estate. Follow in the footsteps of the domestic servants as the Rotunda basement comes to life, to get a ‘behind-the-scenes’ view of what’s cooking in the kitchen.
Ickworth House is also the beautiful setting for ‘Shakespeare Outdoors’. ‘As You Like It’ will be performed by The Lord Chamberlain's Men on July 28 with the normal Shakespearean themes of romance, cross-dressing, poetry, satire and slapstick.
For one of the best dates in the UK’s festival calendar, Suffolk’s own Latitude Festival taking place between July 18-21, has a fantastic 2013 line-up which will include Rudimental, Maccabees, Bloc Party, Foals, Jessie Ware and many more chart-topping acts.
To start the school holidays with the wow factor, why not take your family to the Warriors Academy at Framlingham Castle? The perfect dramatic backdrop for children to learn all about the history of this area.
Alternatively, visit Melford Hall in Long Melford to celebrate Beatrix Potter Day on July 26 — a good day for the whole family to enjoy.
The month of July ends with the fabulous Music on The Green Festival in Southwold. Taking place on South Green on July 27, this free event is perfect entertainment for a summer evening, featuring live music, a BBQ , Pimms Tent, Ice Cream and a Bouncy Castle run by Southwold Sole Bay Lions Club.
