About Sutton HooSutton Hoo is a wonderful visitor attraction for all of the family and is situated close to the historic market town of Woodbridge.
Discover one of Britain’s greatest archaeological finds of all times – the burial grounds of a 27 metre oak ship belonging to an Anglo-Saxon King.
When this amazing treasure was discovered in 1939, there was no trace of the original wooden ship as it had completely rotted away. However, its imprint remained along with some fascinating artefacts including a warrior chieftain’s helmet, silver and gold, various weaponry including swords and shields and a priceless purse lid featuring gold ornamentation along with garnet cloisonné. Believed to date back to the early 7th century AD, these wonderful finds can be viewed at the British Museum and within the award-winning exhibition at Sutton Hoo.
The burial mounds are set amongst a beautiful 255 acre site on the banks of the River Deben – opposite Woodbridge. The whole National Trust site is a wonderful place for all ages to visit featuring some beautiful walking trails, an award-winning exhibition centre, a coffee shop, a year-round events programme and visitor’s centre.
