Aldeburgh is a popular town situated on the heritage coastline of Suffolk. It has a mainly shingle beach, with the Aldeburgh RNLI Lifeboat station housed right on the seafront not far from the historic Moot Hall.

If you head north from Aldeburgh along the seafront, you’ll find a walking track which will take you to the quirky seaside hamlet of Thorpeness. If you happen to be staying in one of our Aldeburgh or Thorpeness holiday cottages, a stroll or cycle along this coastal walking track is a fantastic activity for the whole family.

Your coastal walk will take you past a stretch of shingle beach which has been designated as a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. Here you’ll see fascinating botanic species such as Sea Kale, Sea Pea and the Yellow Horned Poppy. Sea Kale can be recognised by its strange clump-like form and offers a fantastic summer display of flowers but also survives throughout the seasons.

If you head further north and past Maggi Hambling's controversial shell sculpture, you'll pass the RSPB North Warren reserve on your right. This delightful reserve contains reedbeds, heathland, woodland and marshes. Thousands of ducks, swans and geese use these marshes in winter, whilst breeding bitterns, woodlarks, marsh harriers and nightingales are attracted in the springtime.
