The Sailors' Path - from Snape to Aldeburgh

Walk in the footsteps of the seafarers who travelled from the Suffolk coast to the village of Snape.

The Sailors' Path follows a beautiful route between Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh. The path, which has recently been upgraded with funds kindly donated by Suffolk Secrets' customers, is so named, as historically sailors would walk the route on their way home. Falling within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty AONB, the upgrade has included surface and route improvements, new interpretation boards, new directional markers and a SUFFOLK Secrets branded Explorer Guide.

Highlights of the Sailors' Path walk include passing Snape Marshes; a vital wildlife habitat containing reedbeds, wet woodland and marshland. There are freshwater dykes which are home to an otter population and a variety of plants and insects. Snape Marshes is managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.  Another highlight is the Snape Warren Nature Reserve. Managed by the RSPB, it provides a habitat for many birds including woodlark, yellowhammer and the illusive nightjar.
