It’s official! The Cake Shop Bakery in Woodbridge is Britain’s Best Bakery 2014!
With its tantalising displays of breads, cakes and treats, The Cake Shop Bakery in Woodbridge has been attracting loyal customers for many years.
Operating from its Thoroughfare premises since 1946, many locals would arguably claim that this Woodbridge bakery is “simply the best”. However, this title has now been made official after The Cake Shop Bakery won ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery 2014 finals.
After stiff competition from over 600 bakeries across Great Britain, Lindsay and David Wright from The Cake Shop Bakery were crowned winners on the 14th February 2014. The final competition bake centred around a “rose garden" inspired wedding cake and the Woodbridge siblings were triumphant when they wooed judges (and bride and groom to be) with their delicious 4-tiered “root cake”.
From the outset, it was clear that Lindsay and David have a huge passion for locally sourced Suffolk produce. In the semi-finals’ “iconic bake” they included mussels from the River Deben, samphire, Rock (locally caught fish) and locally milled flour in their delicious fish pie.
David Wright is a third generation baker who took over his father’s business early last year. Other members of the Wright family including his four sisters, continue with a passion for creating beautiful products from the simplest of ingredients at their recently renovated Thoroughfare premises.
