Suffolk is the perfect destination for a short break or weekend away. It is less than half a day’s drive away from London, Essex and Kent and there is a regular train service to beautiful Suffolk market towns such as Woodbridge from London Liverpool Street station.
Suffolk Secrets offers more than 320 VisitEngland inspected holiday cottages across Suffolk and we’re sure you’ll be able to find lots of things to see and do once you’ve arrived at your short break destination.
WALKING AND CYCLING
If you like walking along beautiful coastal paths or meandering through bluebell carpeted woodland, spring is the perfect time to visit Suffolk for a short break. Several Suffolk Wildlife Trust managed reserves including Reydon Woods near Southwold and Captain’s Wood near Orford usually offer a particularly stunning display of bluebells during late April/early May each year. Many private and commercial gardens in Suffolk are keen participants in The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) including "The Place for Plants" in East Bergholt which is situated close to Flatford in Constable Country.
If you require further information on cycling and walking routes in Suffolk, we’ve compiled a comprehensive library of trails and maps in PDF format, including Walberswick National Nature Reserve trails, The Sailors’ Path from Snape to Aldeburgh, Rendelsham Forest UFO cycle trail, “Threads” trails around the Suffolk Wool Towns plus a range of Adnams’ pub walks and explorer guides. If you’d like a PDF version of any of these maps emailed to you, please do not hesitate to call our friendly team.
SHOPPING (AND EATING!)
For the shopaholic, Suffolk is dotted with many traditional market towns offering a fantastic selection of art galleries, jewellers, clothing boutiques and homeware retailers. Once you’re happy with your new purchases, why not rest your weary legs in a local eatery? Choose from a selection of traditional cafes, artisan bakeries, specialist coffee shops or a traditional Suffolk pub serving the local catch. If you’d like a fascinating insight into how your favourite brew is made, why not join one of Adnams’ Brewery Tours in the traditional, seaside town of Southwold.
