The spring equinox or "Eostara" was an Anglo Saxon festival when the end of winter, snow and frosts was celebrated, bringing forth new life and an abundance of spring flowers.
Join Time Team's Dr Sam Newton for a fascinating lecture about the Sprint Equinox followed by lunch at King's River Cafe at Sutton Hoo.

ABOUT DR SAM NEWTONDr Sam Newton who completed studies at The University of East Anglia and Cambridge University, is an historian who has lectured widely around the country. He has appeared and contributed to may radio and TV programmes including Time Team, Digging for Britain with Dr Alice Roberts, Monarchy and BBC Radio 4's "Making History".
He has published several books including The Origins of Beowulf and the pre-Viking Kingdom of East Anglia and The Reckoning of King Rædwald.
ABOUT SUTTON HOOIn 1939, Mrs Pretty, the former landowner of Sutton Hoo, commissioned a local archaeologist to excavate several burial grounds present on her estate. To everyone's amazement, Basil Brown and his team excavated one of the greatest Anglo Saxon hoards ever discovered, including a jewel-encrusted purse lid, a beautifully crafted shield, gold and cloisonné regalia and other priceless treasures. The amazing burial site also included a treasure laden ship which belonged to Wuffinga King Raedwald, who ruled over “Eastern Angles” (East Anglia) from circa 617 – 625.
Visitors to Sutton Hoo can walk around these ancient burial mounts, learn more about King Raedwald at the award-winning exhibition and enjoy wonderful walks through the estate, which affords breath taking views across the River Deben.
