Southwold has achieved a Blue Flag award in the Keep Britain Tidy 2014 awards, announced on 20th May. Ten beaches in the East of England achieved a Blue Flag including the “Southwold Pier” beach.

Most of our wonderful holiday cottage customers and Southwold visitors love a day at the seaside with friends and family, and by visiting a beach that proudly displays a Blue Flag award, you can be assured that you are visiting one of the cleanest in the country.

The charity Keep Britain Tidy states that the Blue Flag award recognises that a beach has “high standards of cleanliness, safety and management”.  To achieve a coveted Blue Flag the quality of the sea water must also be of an “excellent standard” as judged against the European Bathing Water Directive.

Staff at Suffolk Secrets are delighted that Southwold has achieved this award for 2014 and are proud to continue to keep our beaches clean by participating in a beach clean-up several times a year – including the main Beachwatch event which will take place 19th - 22nd September 2014.

So come on down to Southwold and enjoy the award winning beaches!
