A Sunny Suffolk Weekend!

We’ve just had our first scorching weekend in Suffolk and with it we enjoyed an influx of happy holidaymakers arriving at the coast to enjoy their break in a Suffolk holiday cottage. At this time of year we see nearly as many people arriving for a short weekend or midweek break as we do long holidays, keen to recharge the batteries in a county where you can have some good old fashioned fun.

It struck me when we walked along the promenade at Southwold how true that statement is. How many generations of families have enjoyed these beach holidays since the Victorians made this type of holiday so popular! The beaches of Suffolk are a great place to reconnect with you inner child. With a '99’ in one hand, a bucket and spade in the other, rushing down the slope to the golden sands is a really wonderful experience.

We hire out beach huts as part of the holiday letting business and sometimes the self catering cottages also have a beach hut to hire. The Southwold huts feature in the BBC children’s TV show Grandpa in my pocket, so my 2 &1/2 year old is fascinated by them as well as the actual house that sits opposite the boating lake in Aldeburgh. The beach huts frame the Southwold holiday, a glorious palette of pastel pinks, blues, and yellows all with a fresh coat of paint ready for the summer season.

For those lucky Suffolk Secrets holidaymakers, when their day at the beach is over they can retreat back to their holiday cottage safe in the knowledge that a relaxing evening is ahead of them. Children that sleep so soundly, in a way that only the sea air can affect… it’s another day tomorrow and time for another ice-cream!
