You’ve booked your perfect holiday in Suffolk, in the perfect location, and in the perfect self-catering cottage (courtesy of Suffolk Secrets of course!). Soon you’ll be counting down the days until you’re on your well-deserved break from the daily routine.

Part of the fun of counting down until your holiday has to be planning all of the essentials you want to bring along for your holiday in Suffolk. Whether it’s your homely comforts such as your beloved pillow or your favourite family board game, prepare a check list to make sure you bring everything you need for your cottage holiday.

What should I pack for my self-catering holiday?

Here are our top five suggestions on what to take for your self-catering holiday in Suffolk:

  1. Once you’ve received your travel details including the cottage’s address, a good space saving tip is ordering an online shop to be delivered directly to your cottage for when you arrive. This saves loads of time, either shopping beforehand or finding the local superstore to stock up on food and drink.
  2. If you’re heading to one of Suffolk’s beautiful beaches or even wandering through the Wools Towns or Constable Country, foldable freezer bags are a handy addition to the packing list to use for picnics whilst gazing over Suffolk’s beautiful surroundings. They are light and don’t take up much space in your travel bag either!
  3. We’ve all done it, forgot to pack the necessary kitchen items for a self-catering holiday such as dishwasher tablets or washing up liquid so headed to the local shop in a mad dash to pick up those every day essentials. Try to plan in advance and bring a handful of dishwasher tablets or that half empty bottle of washing up liquid from home and save those all-important pennies for tucking into Suffolk’s delicious local produce.
  4. If you’re planning on creating your own Gordon Ramsey style dishes in your self-catering cottage, it’s always handy to bring a selection of herbs and condiments from home either wrapped up in foil or in a small tub ready to season your dishes to taste.
  5. And most importantly, before you head off on your journey to your cottage in Suffolk, don’t forget to print off your discount vouchers from the Added Value Section of our website saving you money on local attractions and restaurants.

Of course this is just a snippet of the handy items to consider when packing for your self-catering holiday but if you’d like some more tips, why not contact our local reservations team who will be able to advise on what’s included in your individual cottage and suggest anything you may need for your holiday.

What’s included in your cottage holiday?

All of our Suffolk Secrets holiday cottages are equipped with bed linen and the beds are freshly made for your arrival, meaning that’s one less thing to worry about it. However, for those of you who prefer to bring your comfy pillow from home then you’re more than welcome.

Generally, one bath towel and one hand towel are supplied per person (unless stated otherwise) but it’s always best to check before your holiday. Also for your convenience, some properties offer towels for hire for a fee.

Many of our properties offer welcome packs for guests and these could include handy provisions such as tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits so you can enjoy a good brew whilst settling into your holiday home.

Each property varies with what it offers – it’s always useful to check your travel details before heading off.

Self-catering holidays offer you the flexibility to spend your holiday as you want – you’re not tied into set eating times with a limited selection, no flight delays with overnight stays, or the hustle and bustle of other keen holidaymakers. Self-catering holidays in Suffolk are the perfect way to relax and unwind.
