Dunwich Heath is a beautiful reserve and is home to many wildlife species and birds including ant-lion, adder and the mysterious Nightjar.  RSPB Minsmere Reserve – home of BBC Springwatch 2014 - offers a myriad of birdwatching opportunities and also supports one of England’s largest herds of red deer.  The Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB also offers an enviable choice of walking and cycling trails - so if you're visiting this beautiful area, don't forget to bring your boots (and bicycle!).

Whilst staying in your self-catering cottage, you might like to find out a little more about the history of Dunwich. Dunwich Museum offers a fascinating exhibition which illustrates an amazing history that spans millennia.

Dunwich offers several places to eat out. The Ship Inn offers good food and drink and Flora Tearooms is well known for its fish and chips. Alternatively, walk to Dunwich Heath and visit their tea rooms. If you start from the beach car park, follow the walking trail past Greyfriars Ruins and you’ll be lead through forests and heathland before reaching the Dunwich Heath Coastal Centre.

LEGEND OF THE CHURCH BELLSLegend says that if you stand on a particular stretch of beach where the original city of Dunwich once stood, you can still hear the tolling of the church bells underwater – although the original church was lost to sea many years ago.
