About Long Melford

Long Melford was a thriving settlement in Tudor times. Local villagers lay claim to having "the longest high street in England" which is a fabulous place to shop with its lovely selection of antique shops, galleries, boutiques, craft shops and tea rooms.  A holiday or short break in Long Melford is perfect for discovering more about this historic area of Suffolk and a cluster of towns and villages known as "The Wool Towns". In addition to discovering the historic heart of Long Melford, there are plenty of walking opportunities in the surrounding area including a "Threads" trail - which explores the town's historic weaving and textile industry.  Another popular walk is a trail that follows an old railway track from Long Melford to Lavenham. Don’t worry – this track is not used by trains today!

Other attractions in the area include Kentwell Hall – famous for its costumed “Tudor Re-enactment” events and Melford Hall – a beautiful house that Beatrix Potter visited on many occasions during her lifetime.

Long Melford offers lots of lovely tea rooms, restaurants and pubs so you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out. Try Tiffin’s Tea Emporium for a delicious afternoon tea complete with home-made scones, or for fine dining, try Scutchers - proud holder of a “Michelin Bib Gourmand” accolade.
