Suffolk’s hosting lots of lovely festivals and festive events over the next few months. To help you plan your festive tour around our beautiful county, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite events:

Sutton Hoo Christmas Fayre

11am-4pm, Saturday 15 November - Sunday 16 November 2014

Sutton Hoo’s Christmas Fayre features lots of local Suffolk produce, gifts, and other festive treats. During the weekend, make the most of the reduced Sutton Hoo visitor entry fee of £3 for adults or £2 for children (no charge for National Trust members) and discover the mysterious Anglo Saxon burial mounds, enjoy the award-winning exhibition centre, visit Mrs Pretty’s house which will be festooned in lovely 1930s Christmas decorations or take a lovely walk along the River Deben. Refreshments will be available throughout the day in the King’s River Café.

Mrs Pretty’s Christmas at Sutton Hoo

11am-4pm Saturday and Sundays between Saturday 15 November and Sunday 14 December 2014.

Come and join in the 1930s-inspired festive celebrations at Sutton Hoo in Woodbridge. Mrs Pretty was the former owner of the land where one of the UK’s most incredible archaeological discoveries was unearthed. The land, located on the eastern banks of the River Deben near Woodbridge, housed some mysterious mounds, and in 1938 Mrs Pretty commissioned a local archaeologist to excavate them. Incredibly he discovered the burial chambers of King Rædwald - former Anglo-Saxon king of Eastern Angles (East Anglia) - alongside his burial ship, treasures and family. This period-themed event will be held in Mrs Pretty’s former house. She was a Roedean and “Parisian” educated lady and visitors can take in the beautiful interiors of her former home, admire festive decorations, talk to 1930s costumed “servants” and enjoy festive music and singing from local choirs and musicians.

Mrs Pretty’s Christmas will take place every weekend between Saturday 16 November and Sunday 14 December 2014. This is a free event but normal Sutton Hoo admission charges apply. For accommodation nearby, Suffolk Secrets has a lovely selection of self-catering cottages in Woodbridge, Bawdsey and the surrounding area.
