Fun in the Sun at Felixstowe

Published: Monday 17th Aug 2015

The towns dotted across the Suffolk coast are thriving with visitors and day-trippers in the summer holidays. Felixstowe is one of these coastal towns which can be enjoyed by everyone looking for a fun-filled day by the seaside.

The long promenade is dotted with colourful beach huts, reminiscent of Southwold further up along the coast, and there are plans to renovate the Pier in 2016/2017. The pier itself is great fun for children with arcade style games, children’s rides and food kiosks, as well as the cafe serving refreshments and ice creams.

For a shopping trip then Hamilton Road, the town’s main retail area, is the place to go. Along this street you’ll find an abundance of boutiques and independent shops along with high street brands. Of course, being a typical Suffolk seaside resort, Felixstowe offers something for everyone in terms of food. The Little Ice Cream Company makes ice creams using locally sourced ingredients and fresh milk from Felixstowe’s dairy herd at Adam’s Farm. A trip to Felixstowe wouldn’t be the same without sampling fish and chips from the award winning Fish Dish. This modern restaurant is located on Felixstowe seafront and can create traditional fish and chips in beef dripping or a fresh fish fillet on a bed of salad. Also in a seafront location, The Alex Café Bar and Brasserie caters for all occasions from morning coffee and cake to full restaurant delights and there is a large heated patio overlooking the sea.

Whilst visiting Felixstowe why not take the time to visit the museum to learn about Felixstowe’s rich history?

For a budding seamstress or quilter (like me!), my favourite fabric shop of all time, The Little Fabric Shop, is located along Beach Road and stocks a large range of fabrics, threads and haberdashery for creative projects at great prices.

There’s so much to see and do in Felixstowe we can’t recommend it enough! We have many self-catering properties in Felixstowe which are available to let all year round, such as seafront new-build townhouses and upside down houses with fantastic sea views. View our Felixstowe holiday properties here.
