Get Set for Halloween with Pumpkin Carving!

Pumpkin carving really sets the scene for Halloween and it’s surprisingly simple to do, all you need are a few essentials and someone to help. We have listed below some simple instructions to get you started!

You will need:

An AdultA pumpkinA plain piece of paper and a penA marker penA large serrated knifeA small serrated knifeA large spoonA single tealightMatches or a lighter

Step 1: Select your pumpkin and draft a design on a spare piece of paper.

Step 2: Using the large knife cut off the crown of the pumpkin.

Step 3: Scoop out the flesh and seeds and discard (or alternatively why not save this and bake some pumpkin goodies?! See below!).

Step 4: Using a marker pen, draw your design onto the surface of the pumpkin. Then using a smaller knife cut the eyes, nose and mouth according to your design (please remember to cut away from you in case the knife slips!).

Step 5: Light a tealight and place inside your pumpkin and replace the crown on the top.

Ta dah!

So what to do with all that pumpkin flesh and seeds? Why not make a pumpkin hummus or add it to a soup recipe – or better still transform a lasagne into a vegetarian friendly one?  Pumpkin is very versatile so don’t let yours go to waste!
