Aldeburgh - A Food Lovers Paradise...

Published: Monday 1st Feb 2016

We just adore Aldeburgh! This premier seaside town has everything you could wish for in a holiday destination – a beautiful beach with traditional fishermen’s huts for the catch of the day, fabulous range of boutiques dotted along the High Street for a spot of retail therapy and some of the best restaurants and eateries to tantalise your taste buds!

We’ve shortlisted below a few of our favourite places to eat in Aldeburgh and we highly recommend checking them out during your next holiday. We’ve also included our favourite dishes to choose from, so get exploring the culinary delights of Aldeburgh!

The East Coast Café Restaurant, High Street

This informal restaurant located off the High Street uses all locally sourced ingredients from various Suffolk producers. We just adore the confit duck leg with kale, plums and duck-fat chips; add a glass of Bourgogne Pinot Noir to compliment the flavours of the duck. Delicious!

The Lighthouse Restaurant, High Street

A firm favourite amongst the team here at Suffolk Secrets! This friendly restaurant has a great lunch and A-la carte menu with dining facilities on the ground floor, first floor and in the courtyard area. Guests can also enjoy a pre-cinema two or three course evening meal at a special price. Tracy, our Maintenance Team Leader recommends the sea bass dish served with risotto and a rocket leaf salad – after all we are on the coast. Top this off with a refreshing glass of Italian Pinot Grigio.

The White Lion, Market Cross Place

The White Lion is a hugely successful hotel with thriving bar and restaurant. You really feel like you’re somewhere special when dining here. Not only do we recommend their restaurant food but the hotel also serves Afternoon Teas – a soaring trend for something a little special. Choose from the traditional Afternoon Tea menu or try something completely new and sample one of their ‘Magical’ Afternoon Teas. We’re talking sweet treats, candyfloss, fizz, jelly, cake and much more!

Aldeburgh Fish and Chip Shop, High Street

We definitely couldn’t list places to eat without including the iconic Aldeburgh Fish and Chip shop! The name simply speaks for itself – fish and chips at its very best and hugely recognised as one of the best in Britain! Here you can also discover The Golden Galleon – sister to the Aldeburgh Fish and Chip shop offering not just fish and chips but burgers and pies too. Eating in is easy – just pop up the stairs to The Upper Deck and enjoy your British classic in the comfort of the restaurant.  There’s also the addition of selected desserts if you can find room after tucking into the legendary fish and chips!

Choppings Hill Café and Bakery, High Street

An Aldeburgh visit wouldn’t be the same without stopping at Choppings Hill Café and Bakery in the High Street. On offer is a bakery section full of fresh quiches, bread and cakes as well as the shop section where you can purchase locally produces jams and sauces such as Stokes. The café is ideal for a quick coffee stop or a light lunch with a selection of sandwiches, toasted sandwiches and pasties to choose from. Just above Choppings Hill Café and Bakery is The Old Bakery holiday apartment – a spacious, cosy apartment for up to six guests with its own parking space.

Aldeburgh offers visitors an excellent base for a self-catering holiday with everything you could need in one location – simply park the car and embrace the shops, pubs, restaurants and beach.
