Five Foodie Treats in Suffolk

Suffolk is fast becoming one of the UK's most popular culinary tourist destinations thanks to its fabulous local produce from land and sea. We're great at celebrating our local producers too, with a jam-packed season of food and drink festivals where you can sample some of the regional delights. Here are some of the highlights coming up.

Ipswich Food and Drink Event – 6th and 7th August 2016Ipswich Waterfront is chic and contemporary with a great selection of cafés, bars, restaurants and delicatessen.  This is the backdrop for the Ipswich Food and Drink Event this weekend.  Based around a farmers market that celebrations local, national and international produce, there will be a food court and cookery demonstrations to blow your mind.View our Ipswich holiday homes.

Bury Food and Drink Festival – 28th and 29th August 2016Bury St Edmunds is one of the largest towns in the county and its lively atmosphere and historic beauty are not to be missed.  Period buildings, a breath-taking cathedral and stunning landscape gardens, not to mention an excellent selection of shops await in this gem in the heart of Suffolk.  Bury celebrates all things foodie in real style.  This family friendly festival combines street entertainment and family fun to create a vibrant festival and colourful festival.View our cottages in and around Bury St Edmunds.

Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival – 24th and 25th September 2016Set around Snape Maltings on the banks of the River Alde with reed marshes as far are the eye can see, the setting for this festival is as glorious as the food and drink it celebrates.  Over 90 Suffolk food and drink producers come together for this annual celebration, with everything from raw milk and organic vegetables to award winning beers and spirits and delicious street food.  There are cookery demonstrations from talented local chefs, various fringe events plus a series of hands-on workshops for adults and children.

Woodbridge Shuck – 30th September to 2nd October 2016Woodbridge is a historic market town on the banks of the River Deben and has some of the best restaurants, pubs and shopping in the coastal area.  The River Deben and its banks are the source of many a local delicacy including Oysters, Mussels and Asparagus, and the Woodbridge Shuck is a celebration of these delicacies as well as other local food producers.Local pubs and restaurants will be holding special events and preparing special menus for the weekend, there will be pop—up restaurants including the Shuck Shack, food trails, a ‘Safari Supper’ and more.Suffolk Secrets has over 40 VisitEngland assessed holiday cottages in the Woodbridge area, just perfect for enjoying the Woodbridge Shuck.  Take a look

The Great Framlingham Sausage Festival – 8th October 2016A bit of light-hearted fun for visitors, but an event with a much coveted award at stake for local butchers, the Great Framlingham Sausage Festival celebrates Suffolk’s local pork producers (there are more pigs than humans in Suffolk apparently) and our butchers. Visitors can follow the Sausage Trail sampling bangers from all of the competition entrants along the way, take part in a workshop or just enjoy the entertainment, with the picturesque town of Framlingham and its castle as a backdrop.View our lovely selection of holiday cottages in Framlingham.
