Five Fab Things about Framlingham

Often referred to as 'Fram', Framlingham was once voted one of the most desirable places to live by Country Life magazine.  We happen to agree, it is indeed a fine place to live but if you’re not lucky enough to do so, the next best thing it to take a short break or holiday there!  Here’s five things that we think are fab about Fram.

Market day

Framlingham has a thriving market which has existed since about 1285 and offers a unique shopping experience.  Every Tuesday and Saturday Market Hill fills with stalls selling everything from local cheese to toys.  Regulars include yummy cakes and soups from Pea Green Kitchen and bespoke silver jewellery from Crafty Mrs Fox.

Get lost in history

Framlingham Castle is a must-see for families and those interested in Tudor history. This magnificent 12th century fortress towers above the town, and is famous for being Mary Tudor’s refuge before she was crowned Queen. Framlingham Castle, managed by English Heritage, offers some fabulous half term and summer holiday activities including Knights’ Tournaments, Horrible History Tours and Halloween Witches Hunts!

Try a tipple

British wine is growing in popularity and if you’d like to learn more about the complexities of wine-making why not take a tour one of East Anglia’s oldest commercial vineyards, Shawgates.  You can take a self-guided tour at any time with an information pack available for free at the vineyard store, alternatively guided tours are available if pre-booked.

Bangers galore

Each year Framlingham celebrates the glorious produce of our local pig farmers and butchers with Sausagefest.  This day of meaty celebrations takes place each autumn and visitors flock to the town to sample the wares of local butchers and vote for which one will win the coveted title of Sausagfest Champion. There’s activities for children, live music and fun for everyone.
