Switching on the lights in Suffolk

With Christmas just 46 sleeps away (yes we’re counting!) over the next few weeks we will watch Suffolk light up with an array of Christmas ‘switch on’ events taking place all over the county. So if late night shopping, Christmas carols, mulled wine, visits from Santa and sparkling lights are a must-see in the build up to Christmas for you, get yourselves down to some of these fantastic displays.

Lighting up Lowestoft – Saturday 19th November 2016This event is taking place during the day with Christmas performances from the Lowestoft Players and James TW. Don’t miss out a spot of Christmas shopping with shops including The Body Shop and Palmers. Make sure you stick around for 4.45pm when the countdown to the lights switch on takes place.Fancy making a weekend of it? Book a holiday cottage for ease. Festive Afternoon in Aldeburgh – Saturday 19th November 2016This afternoon event in Aldeburgh is packed full of festive activities including a children’s choir, Santa and his grotto, mulled wine and mince pies and much more. Kicking off at 1.45pm until 5.00pm, there will be plenty of opportunity for a spot of Christmas shopping to find some unique gifts for your loved ones this Christmas. There is also a children’s fun fair at the Moot Hall.Aldeburgh is a well-known coastal town within Suffolk boasting thousands of visitors each year. Big, bold and bright in Beccles – Friday 25th November 2016A magical switch on is due to take place in the small market town of Beccles at the end of the month with the cast of panto group staying in character and welcoming visitors. As well as a host of stalls, a funfair for the kids, local produce and late night shopping we hear that Santa and his grotto will also make an appearance at The Church! There will be a Christmas tree trail, two local choirs and Dave Taylor from Heart radio will be performing the countdown to the switch on at 6pm.To take full advantage of the night and explore the local area why not bring along all the family and book a stay at Butterfield House positioned right on the river Waveney.

Switching on at Southwold – Saturday 26th November 2016

One of Suffolk’s most popular switch on events returns to the coastal town of Southwold. There will be even more stalls, food and drink on sale, a selection of shops opening late and Santa’s arrival for the switch on. The independent boutiques and shops are extremely popular for Christmas shopping so why not arrive a little earlier and take full advantage of what is on offer.Southwold is the ideal weekend getaway, so don’t just stop for one night! Festive Flair in Felixstowe – Saturday 26th November 2016

Felixstowe presents a fantastic switch on event for all the family. There is an abundance of things to see during the event with a Craft Market hosting a variety of stalls, carol singing, Santa’s grotto and a candlelight parade for the children. This event is organised each year by the Felixstowe Lions Club and welcomes lots of visitors each year. The Lights will be switched on by the Mayor of Felixstowe from the stage at the Triangle on Hamilton Road.There is plenty to see in do in Felixstowe, so much so you’ll want to stop off for more than one night! We recommend a stay at Felsto Beach where you can take full advantage of glorious sea views and relax after a busy day enjoying the festivities.
