Our Suffolk Manager Julian Brackenbury took his family for a day out at Ickworth House near Bury St Edmunds last weekend. Read his blog below about this iconic building and the stunning grounds that it sits in:
We loaded the bikes up and went to Ickworth House in the lovely Village of Horringer which is only 2 miles outside of Bury St Edmunds. The House is managed by The National Trust and is set in beautiful rolling countryside. The history of the the much troubled Marquesses of Bristol is detailed within the house itself and makes for fascinating reading.
The House itself is iconic in its design and rich with history dating back to the 18th Century and the grounds host its own church. There are plenty of walks, gardens, a coffee shop, play areas and the house to explore, it will appeal to all ages.
The bike trail took me and my 8 year old son about an hour to complete at a steady pace. The route itself was hilly, partly across fields and partly on tracks, there was plenty to see with lambs in the lush green fields, stunning views and pretty streams.
In summary, a beautifully designed house in a very British countryside location, I would thoroughly recommend a visit!"
