Visiting Suffolk with your Dog

We are delighted to welcome Steph Walton as our guest blogger this month. We invited Steph and her gorgeous spaniels Sev & Lily to come and stay in one of our luxury self-catering cottages in the Suffolk countryside and here is what they got up to!

Sev and Lily are two cocker spaniels, adventuring up and down the country to find the best dog friendly places to travel and visit with dogs.

Suffolk is certainly known for it’s gorgeous coastline and beaches, however the Countryside is just as gorgeous and somewhere Sev, Lily, and their human have recently visited.

Where to stay

Suffolk Cottage Holidays has a great range of dog friendly homes and cottages in the Suffolk Countryside. We stayed near the Sudbury area, which was perfect for exploring Suffolk and finding the best dog friendly places to visit.

Rowhedge Farm Cottage is a gorgeous 2 bedroom/4 person cottage, literally in the middle of nowhere with a gorgeous garden area, beautiful kitchen and living room and with two bedrooms it’s great for a family, friends or just a couple on a dog friendly holiday.

The garden is shared with the farm house of the owners next door, but it is gorgeous and great when you have dogs or even in the warm weather for a BBQ too. The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, freezer (great for raw fed dogs), washing machine and dishwasher- all makes for a great and easy trip.

Suffolk Holiday Cottages does have a few rules when it comes to your dogs joining you on the holiday, including no paws on the furniture or upstairs.

Where to visit

Melford Country Park

Nearby we found a lovely open park area, which is great for a dog walk before adventures begin. Melford Country Park is a short drive for the cottage and has a great mix of open green space, water for a small splash and woodland areas too. Other Country Parks to visit: Clare Castle Country Park, a great mix of castle ruins, walks and even a café.

Flatford National Trust

This stunning National Trust village is a must for a day out with the dogs in Suffolk, gorgeous thatched cottages that line the streets. The canal is amazing, for a quick doggy paddle, or boat trips and row boat hire for the humans. The tearooms is dog friendly and has lovely indoor and outdoor seating for all weather, or why not take a picnic and enjoy along the stream with the boats passing by. The walks are long and stunning and great to tire out two crazy spaniels. Other National Trusts to Visit: Melford Hall, perfect for a trial around the lovely grounds.

Abbey Gardens

Set in the gorgeous (and very dog friendly) town of Bury St Edmunds, Abbey Gardens is the beautiful gardens over looked by the Abbey. A gorgeous mix of flowers in the different gardens, from herbs to roses. The peaceful and stunning gardens makes for a lovely wander around, and although dogs must be on leads, Sev and Lily still enjoyed their time sniffing it out.

Home with Paws

Located in Bury St Edmunds, Home with Paws is truly a must visit when in Suffolk. The gorgeous café and gift shop is also the most amazing dog friendly café you can think of. The amazing large fenced off area gives the dogs to be off lead, with toys, a bubble machine and even a ball pit. It’s haven for the furry ones. The food is great for the humans too, and there’s even treats, chews, toys and other dog items to purchase if you really want to spoil them. The dog menu will soon be up and running, and we already can’t wait to visit again!

Honey + Harvey

Located in both Woodbridge and Melton, Honey and Harvey is a super trendy, artisan café, that allows dogs.

Amazing food and instagramable interior, Honey and Harvey is great for breakfast or a drink and snack later in the day.
