Aldeburgh Documentary Festival 2018

The Aldeburgh Documentary Festival returns for its 24th year at Aldeburgh Cinema. Showcasing screenings of highly acclaimed, and many topical, documentaries, the cinema will be brought to life by panels of very special guests who are all a credit to the industry.

One of the oldest, continuously running picture houses in the UK, Aldeburgh Cinema has been showcasing films for over 100 years. When visiting, you'll be charmed by the character of the building with its exposed beams and crittall windows. A sight to see in itself, the Aldeburgh Documentary Festival is made extra special by this historic venue. The foyer staff will greet you with a friendly hello, and inside you'll be able to stock up on yummy snacks and drinks, many which are made from local providers.  

This year the festival looks to host its best year yet. With a fantastic lineup, there is a range of documentaries on the bill to suit everyone. Plastic China which will be shown at 8pm on the Friday and is an eye-opening and extremely moving film about poverty, survival and unequal opportunities. 8 Days a Week: The Touring Years is a brilliant music film about The Beatles when they stormed Europe in the 1960's and will be shown on the Saturday evening at 8 pm. Oscar-nominated follows Agnés Varda, a leading light of France’s New Wave cinema, and professional photographer J.R embarking ona magical journey, travelling around France in a special truck which prints giant mural photographs. A must see and the closing film on the Sunday evening at 7pm.

On the lineup, you'll also discover special opening talks and narrations by some very special guests. Paul Conroy, a photojournalist and documentary maker who began his career in the military will be speaking of his experiences in war zones. Kate Mosse, a number. 1 best-selling novelist will be talking about her latest projects including her recent novel, The Burning Chambers and Nick Broomfield, a major influence in the documentary film world for the past decade will be talking of his documentary making experiences both on-screen and off.
