Spooky Stuff on the Suffolk Coast

It’s the month of October and lurking in the shadows are the ghouls of Great Finborough, monsters of Middleton and spooks of Shingle Street. With fright nights and dark days ahead, Suffolk has lots of exciting Halloween events happening countywide. To make sure you don’t miss them, we’ve compiled a list of some not to be missed spooky occasions.

Scaresville, The Haunted Village at Kentwell Hall

Dates: 3rd October - 4th November 2018 

During the month of Halloween, Kentwell Hall becomes Scaresville, The Haunted Village. An intensely spooky event, guests are invited to embark on an hours walk through the Scaresville Village where they will be met by ghouls, monsters, frights and their worst fears. If you're brave enough to take a walk through this terrifying town, tickets can be purchased via the Scaresville website where you can choose your allocated day and time slot. The event also offers an unfairground, bar and escape room.

ScareTacular Southwold Maize Maze

Dates: 20th-28th October 2018

All the usual activities of Southwold Maize Maze with a spooky edge. Enjoy the eight acres of maize, jumping pillows, pedal go-karts, cradle nest swing, climbing tower and slide, pedal tractors/ ride-ons, giant sandpit, cafe and picnic area which will be decked out in Halloween style threads. Children will love finding the ten monsters and then collecting their small prize, daily fancy dress competitions, pumpkin carving, face painting a haunted house and a fortune teller witch. There are plenty of creepy things to keep you on your toes, during Halloween week.

Night of the Macabre, Landguard Fort, Felixstowe

Dates: 27th-28th October 2018

In the already haunted venue of Landguard Fort in Felixstowe, a wondrous night of frights occurs on the last weekend of half term. A steampunk themed Halloween festival, Night of the Macabre will host cabaret shows, a spooky walk around the fort with added terrifying effects including live scarers and some frightfully fabulous food & drink. Due to its haunts being so good, unfortunately under 14’s can’t attend, however, the venue is open during the day for Felixstowe’s Halloween Steampunk Festival which is a family friendly event, with music, food, and market stalls. Advance tickets for Night of the Macabre cost £12 and under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

With commanding views over the beach and the sea and furnished to a very high standard, Felsto Beach is the perfect choice for guests wanting to enjoy Night of the Macabre. EACH Halloween Glow Walk, Felixstowe Seafront

Dates: 27th October 2018

A walk for a great cause, the Halloween Glow Walk will be raising donations for the East Anglia Children's Hospital on the 27th October. A 2-mile long terrifying trek along the beach starting and finishing at Felixstowe Leisure Centre, children are encouraged to put on their best scary dress. Prizes are available for the most impressive costumes with both boys and girls categories and there will be lots of spooky activities along the way. Entry costs £6 which includes hot chocolate, face painting, a light up head bopper and a monster mash disco once the two miles are complete. 

Seafront Sunrise is a bright and spacious holiday home located right on the beach front in Felixstowe with four spacious bedrooms and some amazing views of the seafront, the perfect spot for families wanting to join the Halloween Glow Walk.

Spooky Stories at Framlingham Castle 

Dates: 22nd-28th October, 11am-4pm.

Grab your cloaks and steady your nerves as you come face to face with the dark side of children’s tales in one of Suffolk’s most iconic settings. Chilling storytellers reveal the terrifying truth behind the bedtime fairy tales you’ve grown to love. Show off your spooktacular costumes and take part in a fancy dress competition as you listen intently to creepy tales. This chilling event is free to English Heritage members, adults £9.50, children aged five to 17 £5.70, concessions £8.60, family ticket £24.70. Tickets include access to the event and the site and can be purchased on the day.
