Suffolk's Top 10 Cosy Pubs to Keep you Warm this Winter

With the colder weather upon us, we think it’s incredibly important to inform visitors to Suffolk on the best places to warm their toes and oil their joints. Suffolk has a wealth of excellent pubs, many serving delicious, local food and local drinks. Suffolk is a historic place, and we’re so lucky to have pubs dating as far back as the 12th century. With bundles of character, the pubs listed below are the cosiest of cosy and you’re guaranteed a warm Suffolk welcome.

The Four Horseshoes Inn
Eye

Awarded the Hidden Gem of the South East, The Four Horseshoes is a pub that sits pretty in pink in the South West Suffolk village of Eye. With plenty of traditional (and very) low beams, an inside well and a large open fireplace, this inn is full of charm and intrigue and makes any occasion feel intimate and relaxed. Why not pop in for The Four Horseshoes carvery which runs from 12 – 3 pm every Sunday.

The Turks Head
Hakeston

A real country pub serving perfectly kept local ales, great food, a fantastic array of gin and an extensive wine list. The Turks Head, not far from Woodbridge, is becoming more popular due to its amazing food and has won many awards for their restaurant over the past couple of years. With open log fires, the pub welcomes people and pups who both enjoy snuggling up after a walk in the beautiful surrounding Suffolk countryside. 

The Sail Loft
Southwold

If you’re staying in or exploring Southwold for the day, head down towards the harbour and along Ferry Road you’ll find the charming The Sail Loft. Recently renovated, the rustic interiors are right on trend and the destination is second to none with views over the sand dunes, beach, sea and Southwold Common. The Plough
Wangford

Nestled just off the A12, The Plough in Wangford is easily accessible from many sought-after destinations in Suffolk and just a few miles from the coast. Relating to its title, the pub strives to offer good food with top-quality tasting ingredients from the extensive Suffolk farmland that surrounds it. The White Horse
Badingham

An incredibly pretty venue with a wealth of history, The White Horse was once an old 15th-century coaching inn which has kept its open fires, pan tiled floors and exposed beams for guests to enjoy. With immaculate grounds, you’ll want photographs of this picture perfect pub and its stunning garden. A hearty winter menu is sure to warm your cockles after being out and about, we recommend a choice from the ‘Curry, Spice (and all things nice)’ section. 

The Sweffling White Horse
Sweffling

Winning the Campaign for Real Ale award for three years in a row, it's no surprise that The Sweffling White Horse has an extensive and continuously changing range of local ales. Always on the hunt for new beers from small breweries, you’re guaranteed to try something new on every visit to this cosy pub. Heated entirely by wood, the lounge bar has a large woodburning stove, and the public bar is home to a lovely wood-fired range cooker which also heats the radiators. Dog-friendly, you the family and the pooch are invited to warm up at The Sweffling White Horse.

The Ship        
Dunwich 

Surrounded by nature reserves, heathland and beach, The Ship at Dunwich is the perfect pit stop when exploring this area of the Suffolk Coast. Once a haunt of smugglers, this pub is dripping in history and is gorgeous both inside and out. The Dennington Queen

A 16th Century country pub, The Dennington Queen is super cosy with its huge fire and comfy seating. Set in the pretty village of Dennington, not far from Woodbridge, you’ll spot this pretty building with its sash windows and wonky roof, which adds to the charm, next to the church. Enjoy home-cooked meals at any time of the week from 12 – 2 pm and 6 – 9:30 pm (Sundays until 8). 

The Ferry Boat Inn
