The Suffolk countryside is vast and varied and if you're lucky enough to be visiting the area over the Easter holidays this year, then there is a wonderful array of EGG-citing activities for the whole family! Get some inspiration with our CRACKING pick of the best events taking place around the Easter period:

STEAM UP AT THE LONG SHOP MUSEUM

SUNDAY 31ST MARCH 2019

The Long Shop Museum, Main Street, Leiston, Suffolk, IP16 4ES

A celebration of steam power and family activity day held at the historical Long Shop Museum. Enjoy the sounds, smells and sights from the era of steam combined with activities for all the family to enjoy.
Spring may feel like it’s been a long time coming but the Long Shop Museum in Leiston will reopen in style by launching the 2019 season on Sunday 31st March with a fantastic steam and activity day from 10am-4pm. There will be large and small engines in steam, including their very own 10 ton steam roller Consuelo Allen and not forgetting the unique Garrett Suffolk Punch Steam Tractor “The Joker”. The last one of her kind.

THE FRAMLINGHAM COUNTRY SHOW

Go along to The Framlingham Country Show for it's 10th anniversary! With some amazing new main ring acts, brilliant and interesting attractions, beautiful shopping, celebrity chefs in the cookery kitchen, a new and improved drinks area selling locally crafted drinks, a festival of cars area, a bigger and better children's area and so so much more! HAVE A GO AT CLAY SHOOTING AT HIGH LODGE LEISURE

Want to try Clay Shooting but don't know where to start? Book onto the Have A Go at Clay Shooting Sessions at High Lodge Leisure. Want to try your hand at clay pigeon shooting but not sure where to start? The High Lodge 'Have A Go at Clay Shooting Sessions' are the perfect way to simply 'have a go' under complete supervision with the fully qualified instructors. The High Lodge 'Have A Go at Clay Shooting Sessions' take place on the second Saturday of every month, and are suitable for adults and children 10yrs+. The sessions are suitable for those who have not tried clay shooting before and want to 'have a go' under complete supervision. It's a great activity for friends and family to try together with a maximum group size of 6, all shooting a package of 20 clays and cartridges each. A fantastic activity to do whether you're on holiday in the area or live locally and looking for something different to do.

WILDERNESS SCHOOL AT DUNWICH HEATH

Wilderness School is coming to Dunwich Heath! It’s a fantastic opportunity to go on an adventure and learn about bush craft, survival and wilderness living with survival expert, Ray Chin, from ‘Back to Wilderness’. Knowing how to build a simple but effective shelter to protect you from the elements can be crucial to surviving in the wilderness. With a little knowhow it’s possible to build a surprisingly strong & cosy shelter without the need to use any rope! If you can also make fire, you can cook food, purify water, make tools, create light and feel centred. Remember, knowledge you can carry everywhere, a lighter you can’t! The event is suitable for children aged 7+ years, but all children must be accompanied by a participating adult. Pre-booking is advisable 01728 648501. CADBURY EASTER EGG HUNT AT DUNWICH HEATH

Spring into action and start the Easter holiday with our fabulous Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt! Our Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt is a seasonal family favourite. AMAZING EASTER EGG HUNT

WEDNESDAY 17TH - THURSDAY 18TH APRIL 2019

Wide open spaces, broad trees and avenues of cheery daffodils await at this park on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds. On April 17 and 18 help the Easter Bunny find his eggs, which he’s lost (hidden) inside the Nowton Park Maze. Try not to lose your bearings as you hunt for the eggs, and you’ll get a chocolate treat when you find your way out. Sessions run at 10am, 12.30pm and 3pm, costing £4 per child. EASTER SPEGGTACULAR

FRIDAY 19TH - MONDAY 22ND APRIL 2019

Baylham House Farm, Mill Lane, Baylham, Suffolk, IP6 8LG

There are loads of opportunities to meet and cuddle newborn lambs at Baylham Farm near Ipswich during its special spring event, daily from April 19 to 22. You might even spot one of the newcomers being born. Open from 10am each day, as well as an Easter Treasure Hunt with prizes, the Speggtacular offers activities such as pig and goat grooming, cuddling bunnies, den building and face painting. All children will get a free bag of feed for the animals on entry during the weekend. Entry is £7.50 for adults and £3.50 for children aged four to 16. A family of two adults and up to three children is £22. Any child wearing an Easter-themed costume on Easter Sunday gets in free.

EASTERTIDE AT KENTWELL HALL

Visitors come from far and wide to Kentwell Hall in Long Melford each Easter, hoping to crack the mind-boggling Impossible Quiz – a real test of your powers of observation. Designed with adult egg heads in mind, the prize for those who complete the challenge, is the chance to win a ginormous Easter egg. More suited to families is the Storybook Trail this year, which runs through the gardens, and the Childrens’ Easter Egg Trail – hunting for wooden eggs with a code to crack. As ever there will be costumed Tudors across the grounds, and the house and farm will be open. Take your camera to capture the stunning spring bulbs in bloom. The event runs from April 19 to 22. CADBURY EASTER EGG HUNT AT SUTTON HOO

EASTER ADVENTURE QUEST AT FRAMLINGHAM CASTLE

THELNETHAN WINDMILL OPEN DAY

MONDAY 22ND APRIL 2019

Thelnethan Windmill, Thelnetham, Diss IP22 1JT

The mill will be open 11am-4pm on all days and wind permitting the sails will be turning. There will be guided tours throughout the day. Additional attractions include the opportunity to view a vintage Ruston & Hornsby diesel engine and the neighbouring wild flower meadow. Visitors can also enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake whilst sitting in the maintained grounds of the mill. We have wheelchair accessible toilet facilities on site.

THE EAST ANGLIAN GAME AND COUNTRY FAIR

SATURDAY 27TH - SUNDAY 28TH APRIL 2019

The East Anglian Game & Country Fair will take place in April at the prestigious Euston Estate, home of The Duke & Duchess of Grafton. Some of the Main Arena displays confirmed for the 2019 include; The Silver Stars Army Parachute Display Team, UK Horseboarding Team, The British Scurry & Trials Driving Championships, Ye Olde Redtail Falconry Display, Harvey’s Heavy Horses, Mid Norfolk Gundog Team and The Suffolk Hunt. 

There are over 350 shopping stands with a wide variety of products from fashion and footwear to gun makers & fishing products. Children’s activities, food hall, craft and gift marquees and much more. Feast Norfolk will be running this year’s Cookery Theatre with a full timetable of award-winning chefs, showcasing their signature dishes using seasonal, local produce. Have breakfast, lunch or dinner at one of the new street food pop-ups and stay on to enjoy the evening bar and live music! Gates open 8am-6pm both days. Adult tickets are £15, children's tickets are £6. Under 5s go free.
