What’s On This October Half Term

We may have had a couple of rainy days recently, but don’t let that put you off planning your October half term getaway – there’s bucket-loads of fun to be had here on the Suffolk Coast!

We thought it might be useful to give you a little low-down on what’s coming up over the next couple of weeks so you can plan your October half term holiday or break with the family, so here goes…

Spooky Goings On

With Halloween just around the corner there are some spooky goings on in Suffolk. 

At Easton Farm Park, near Framlingham little ones can make broomsticks and wands, get lost in a spooky maze and complete a creepy quiz as well as visit all the animals.  Open between 10.30am and 4pm daily. 

Kessingland’s very own wildlife park, Africa Alive, is offering a ‘Zoopernatural half term between 19th and 27th October with spooky storytelling, frightful face painting, Halloween themed crafts and even a wizard school.

Southwold Maize Maze offer bundles of fun and this autumn between 19th October and 3rd November they will be going spooky!  10 cheeky monsters will be lurking in the maze and your job is to find them to win ghostly prizes.

If you’re a lover of pastry-topped treats you won’t want to miss this.  To celebrate ‘National Baking Week’ (14th to 20th October 2019) National Trust Dunwich Heath have a ‘Pieathon’ on Saturday 19th October.  Whether you have a penchant for sweet or savoury things, you’ll be spoilt for choice at the Coastguard Cottage Tearoom at Dunwich. Yum!

A Trip to the Flicks

Aldeburgh Cinema celebrates 100 years this year and if you haven’t been, you’re missing a magical cinematic experience.  This half term the kids are well catered for with a bumper line up of blockbusters… Toy Story 4, Aladdin and The Lion King.

The Beauty of Nature

Experience something truly spectacular with a Deer Rut 4x4 safari at RSPB Minsmere this autumn.  You’ll be driven by an expert guide onto the rutting fields to get you as close to the action as possible.  Don’t forget your camera for this amazing sight of nature.  Daily from 28th September to Sunday 20th October.  From £100 per vehicle. 

Something else you’ll need your camera for is a photography tour with the National Trust Orford Ness, one of the UK’s most spectacular nature reserves and a place steeped in mystery.  You’ll be escorted to the former Atomic Weapons Research Establishment, an area usually off-limits to the public, as well as being able to enjoy the wildlife on the reserve.

Point your eyes to the skies at Henreed beds, near Southwold – a heavenly nature reserved owned and managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust.  Just before dusk on a autumn day is the perfect time to catch another of nature’s gems – murmurations of starlings.
