Home Cooked Heaven

If you want to make the most of your self-catering holiday experience and cook in one of our wonderfully equipped luxury kitchens, there are plenty of independent shops where you can buy locally produced ingredients. Try Little Gems in Southwold’s Market Square for locally-grown fresh fruit and vegetables, whole foods and organic delights, Southwold’s Mills & Son’s for meat, bread, cheese and cakes, The Black Dog Deli in Walberswick for the freshest quality tasty treats (as well as a delicious range of their own ready-meals) or Barbrooks in Reydon for fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, groceries and a growing selection of vegan products.

Takeaway Treats

No holiday to Southwold would be complete without sitting on the beach and tucking into Fish and Chips. We love the Little Fish & Chip shop on the high street for cooked-to-order fresh fish and chips or Mrs T’s at Southwold Harbour is a must-visit from Easter to October (check their Facebook page for opening times). If you love pizza, you will love the sour dough hand-stretched pizzas available to take away from the Two Magpies bakery on Southwold High Street.

Fabulous Fine Dining

The Swan Hotel’s signature restaurant The Still Room offers beautiful and creative dishes in an elegant and contemporary setting. Diners can choose from an exciting a la carte menu and booking is essential. Along the high street in Southwold, Sutherland House which specialises in seafood has been awarded two rosettes by the AA for the quality of its food which is locally sourced and “food miles” are printed on the menu to quantify this. Cross the water to Walberswick and you will find The Anchor which has a tempting locally sourced a la carte menu following the path of the seasons using quality locally grown produce.

Perfect Pub Grub

There are pubs aplenty in the Southwold area but two of our favourites are The Lord Nelson in Southwold and The Bell Inn in Walberswick. The "Nellie" as it is affectionately known is packed full of genuine coastal charm and offers a varied menu of home-style freshly prepared food complemented by a wonderful selection of beers, wines and spirits. Situated on the village green in Walberswick, The Bell Inn is perfect for a meal after a day crabbing or exploring the local landscape. Choose from a tasty selection of home-cooked lunchtime and evening meals and relax in the cosiness of the open fires and traditional beams.

Family Favourites

Enjoy excellent cooking and unbeatable views from The Boardwalk Restaurant on Southwold Pier - perfect for a family meal with a great kid’s menu. Also boasting spectacular views and a family-friendly vibe is The Sail Loft between Southwold’s town and harbour. This relaxed cafe-bar restaurant prides itself on showcasing Suffolk produce with global flavours and local, seasonal ingredients.

Cafe Culture

Cafe 51 on Southwold’s High Street is the perfect spot for enjoying a freshly-brewed morning coffee or tasty breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea and cake. This welcoming cafe also opens for various evenings throughout the year. For a super Southwold harbour-side setting, The Harbour Cafe is ideal for enjoying a light lunch or coffee and cake while watching the boats go by. Both Cafe 51 and The Harbour Cafe welcome well-behaved dogs too.
