Southwold's Satellites.

Southwold is arguably the jewel in the Suffolk Coast – a quirky, unique and bustling seaside town with colourful beach huts, a golden beach and a High Street like no other.

This wonderful town is the perfect holiday destination whether you’re with the family, your ‘someone special’ or a group of friends. However, at this time of year, accommodation availability can be a problem.  Many holiday homes get booked up over a year in advance due to the town’s popularity.

But fear not!  You can still enjoy your Southwold holiday if you cast your search net a little wider.  If you love great value for money, this blog could also be useful.  You’ll often get a bit more for your holiday pound outside of Southwold – perhaps more outdoor space or private parking, which is like gold dust in Southwold.

Reydon

Southwold’s closest neighbour, it’s difficult to pin-point where Southwold ends and Reydon begins!  It’s just a short stroll or cycle ride from the village streets of Reydon to the hustle and bustle of Southwold. 

Reydon has a totally different vibe to Southwold; calmer and more peaceful and with a local shop, and village pub you’ll quickly become one of the locals during your stay.

Wrentham

A few miles north of Southwold is the village of Wrentham.  This is a good holiday base for exploring Southwold and it’s northern neighbours – Kessingland, Pakefield and Lowestoft.  The stunning beaches of Cove Hithe and Benacre are just a few short minutes from here too.

Wrentham boasts two lovely pubs, a fish and chip shop, and shop and there’s a retail park just 10-minutes up the road.

Wangford

Just a 5-minute drive from Southwold and conveniently located just off the A12 is the pleasant village of Wangford.  This is an ideal base if you want to make the most of Southwold’s attractions but want to explore further afield too.

The village boasts a magnificent church – St Peter and St Paul’s and the church yard plays home to the local beekeeper’s hives.  The village shop is perfect for all your holiday essentials and The Angel Inn will keep you well fed and watered.

Blythburgh

If you’re looking for a few more facilities during your stay, then you should consider holidaying in Blythburgh.  This well-located village just 5-miles from Southwold is home to a development called ‘Blyth View’, a former workhouse which has been converted to luxury accommodation with shared use of an indoor swimming pool and gym.  There are also stunning views of the River Blyth.  These views can also be enjoyed over a bite to eat and a pint of the local ale at The White Hart Inn!

Blythburgh is just a few minutes’ drive from RSPB Minsmere, former home of BBC Spring Watch and one of the UKs best known nature reserves.  This village is an ideal holiday habitat for nature lovers!

Walberswick

Just a 5-minute ferry ride away from Southwold, a row-boat ferry that is, a stay in Walberswick is like a step back in time.  This bygone village sits on the opposite side of the River Blyth and oozes charm and leaves you feeling calm, relaxed and care-free.

The pretty village green is like a picture postcard, the two village pubs are ‘proper’ pubs and the beach and sand dunes go as far as the eye can see.

(The car journey to Southwold from Blythburgh is around 15 minutes.)
