Hearty hostelries

The Ship at Dunwich is an iconic Inn, surrounded by beautiful heathland and beach. Here you can enjoy real ales and real food in a cosy, comfortable environment. If you are looking for somewhere superb to dine, between Southwold and Aldeburgh, the Westleton Crown may be the place for you. Dating back to the 12th Century, this old coaching inn retains the charm of its heritage but is now a contemporary pub restaurant. Plenty of local ales are available and an extensive wine list too.Four miles inland you will find The Star Inn at Wenhaston, a lovely little country pub and restaurant that serve excellent food. They use completely local ingredients such as the Suffolk Red Poll Beef with is reared in the very same village, you can’t get much more local than this! The pub has open fires to keep you warm in the winter and a large garden to relax in in those warm summer months. Cuppa’n’cake

The RSPB Reserve at Minsmere handily has a lovely little café in which you can enjoy a cuppa and a cake before you head out on a long trek around the different habitats. You can even enjoy a hot meal here as well when you come back from your journey around the reserve, having worked up a hearty appetite!

Truly ham-azing

In the nearby village of Peasenhall you will find a fantastic shop called Emmetts in the very centre. In this exact spot, they have been trading since 1820, renowned for their cured hams and bacon. As well as this, they sell wine, juice, olives, honey, cheese, fruits, cakes and other sweet treats. If you’re passing, definitely stop by and grab a few things to take back to your self-catering holiday cottage and cook up a storm!
