Beachwatch
Staff at Suffolk Secrets love the environment surrounding their homes and workplace and are passionate about keeping the beaches clean for locals and visitors alike.
In addition to participating in the annual ‘Beachwatch Big Weekend’, a national event coordinated by the Marine Conservation Society (MSC), the staff at Suffolk Secrets have committed to take part in future beach clean-ups. The beach clean-ups help keep Southwold the idyllic place it is by volunteers picking up litter on a stretch of beach, north of Southwold Pier.
According to MSC figures, the amount of rubbish littering our coastline is on the increase. This creates unsightly blots on the landscape and can prove hazardous for wildlife and members of the public. Our staff our proud to take part in the Beachwatch Beach Clean initiative to help look after our coastline for future generations to enjoy.
Keeping Suffolk’s beaches free from litter ensures that both visitors and locals can enjoy this natural attraction. It also helps to protect marine wildlife and seabirds; maintain the environment and ensures that our lovely coastline looks its best all year round. Taking care of our coastline is a responsibility for both local communities as well as visitors, so that future generations can enjoy our natural resources for many years to come. We therefore politely urge visitors that are planning a trip to one of our beaches to ensure they take their litter away with them or place it in a bin. Every effort helps keep our beaches clean.
The Sailors' Path
The Sailors' Path follows a beautiful route between Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh. The path, which has recently been upgraded with funds kindly donated by Suffolk Secrets' customers, is so named, as historically, many-a-sailor would walk this route on their way home. Legends describe local sailors as finding their vessels stranded at Snape Maltings during low tide. To ensure they got home in time for a well-earned supper, they would then have to travel by foot to Aldeburgh!
Falling within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), this historic route takes in sweeping views of the meandering River Alde, with expanses of reed beds, rugged grassland and ancient woodland. Its upgrade has included surface improvements, new interpretation panels, boardwalk repairs, new and improved directional markers and a Suffolk Secrets-branded Explorer Guide with tried and tested recommended walks.
Some highlights of The Sailors' Path walk include Snape Marshes; a vital wildlife habitat containing wet woodland and marshland. The route also takes in lovely areas with freshwater dykes – these form a rich habitat for a thriving otter population and a variety of plants and insects. The Sailors Path is a must for wildlife enthusiasts.
